TLKYCS will host the Monthly Meditation event, inviting Venerable Wai Leung to guide participants in a one-hour meditation session. This activity offers an opportunity to create moments of mindfulness and space for reflection in daily life, inspiring the mind, purifying thoughts, and cultivating an appreciation for the beauty in life. In the tranquility of meditation, participants can gain deeper insights into the profound and liberating essence of life.

Guided Study Course |
|
Starting from February, TLKYCS will host the "Life Lessons from the Seven Parables of the Lotus Sutra" Guided Study Course. Venerable Wai Leung will offer an in-depth interpretation of the Lotus Sutra. The course will focus on the most profound section of the scripture—the "Seven Parables of the Lotus Sutra." These parables were taught by the Buddha to make the truth of the Dharma more accessible, helping participants deepen their understanding of the ultimate meaning of Buddhism, awaken their wisdom, and comprehend the truths of life.

Steel Tongue Drum advanced course |

Starting from February, TLKYCS will launch the Steel Tongue Drum: Purifying Connections advanced course, taught by Venerable Wai Leung. This course is specifically designed for students with a foundational understanding of the steel tongue drum. Participants will delve deeper into the instrument's serene and resonant tones, learning to perform higher-level five-tone chanting melodies and vocal recitations, further enhancing both technical skills and spiritual experience.

Abbot Venerable Tsang Chit's New Year Dharma Talk in the Year of Snake |
|
Abbot Venerable Tsang Chit used the concept of positive energy in Buddhism to inspire the audience on how to fulfill life goals through kind thoughts and virtuous deeds. Drawing on the metaphor of a snake's hibernation to symbolize the accumulation of strength, he reflected on the meanings of stillness and movement, Ch'an and focus, exploring the balance of energy in daily life. |

Assembly to Pay Tribute to the Buddha's Blessings |
|
TLKYCS held the “Assembly to Pay Tribute to the Buddha's Blessings”, expressing gratitude to the Buddha, Bodhisattvas, various celestial beings for their compassionate blessings. Abbot Venerable Tsang Chit shared a compassionate teaching: "Gratitude must be accompanied by repentance, which cleanses the mind like a refreshing spring. Anger clouds our Buddha nature, but through repentance, seeking inner purity, taking refuge in the Triple Gem, upholding the Five Precepts, and practicing diligently, we can cultivate wisdom and merit."
May the merits of this ceremony benefit all beings, bringing peace, happiness, and enlightenment. |

Lunar New Year Assembly |
|
📿 On 29 January, the first day of the Lunar New Year, auspicious clouds filled the skies as blessings embraced the land. TLKYCS held the "Maitreya Buddha’s Birthday Ceremony – Offering and Worship of the Triple Gem." Devotees gathered with sincere reverence, dedicating merits to the wish for increased wisdom and abundant blessings.
📿On 30 January, on the second day of the Lunar New Year, blessings and virtues continued to flow as TLKYCS successfully hosted the "New Year Blessing Ceremony – Offering to the Triple Gem, Celestial Beings, and Four Saints." The serene chanting of sacred verses echoed through the air as devotees gathered to honor the Triple Gem and celestial beings, praying for peace, prosperity, and success in the new year.
📿 From 31 January to 6 February, the Society organized the "Shurangama Seven-Day Assembly," cultivating wisdom and illuminating the path of practice in the year ahead.

Hundred-Day Memorial Service for Elder Bhikkhuni Ching Man SIK |
|
On January 18, the "Hundred-Day Memorial Service for Elder Bhikkhuni Ching Man SIK" was solemnly and successfully held. Venerable masters and lay practioners gathered at the Society to sincerely commemorate the Elder Bhikkhuni’s lifelong compassion in guiding sentient beings and her selfless dedication.
During the service, participants sang the Song of the Triple Gem, watched two short videos reflecting on the Elder Bhikkhuni’s life and contributions, and offered flowers and lights while singing Farewell to express their profound remembrance and gratitude.
Abbot Venerable Tsang Chit SIK delivered a compassionate Dharma talk, inspiring attendees with reflections on how the Elder Bhikkhuni integrated Buddhist wisdom and compassion into daily life, illuminating and benefitting countless beings.
The memorial service was solemn and auspicious. Participants dedicated the accumulated merits to all beings in the Dharma realm, praying for the Elder Bhikkhuni's transendence in the Pure Land and return by vow to continue guiding sentient beings.
In a heartfelt gesture, Venerable Yung Kan SICK personally handed flowers and lights to each guest, symbolizing the continuation of the Elder Bhikkhuni’s spirit of compassion and wisdom, with the hope that the radiance of the Dharma will brighten the hearts of more people. |

"Cloud Haven" presentation and graduation ceremony for courses |
|
On January 19, the Society successfully hosted the "Cloud Haven" presentation ceremony and graduation ceremony for various courses completed in 2024. The 2024/25 LCSG program is also launched with an orientation.
TLKYCS promotes the concept of "Residing in the Dharma, Practicing in Daily Life," encouraging practitioners to integrate learning and daily life practices in their Buddhist studies. Under the leadership of Abbot Venerable Tsang Chit, the "Cloud Gathering" study group welcomed 11 new members this year. The Abbot presented sashes to the new members and awarded "Dāna " and " Sīla " badges to students who excelled in service, study, and practice over the past year.
Certificates were also presented to students from various courses including the "Introduction to Buddhism" Online Course, the "Sixteen Gates of Contemplations Sutra" Guided Study Course, the "Purifying Connections" Steel Tongue Drum Course, and the "Sowing Seeds in your mind" Gardening Course, recognizing their achievements and the integration of Buddhist teachings into daily life.
This year’s LCSG theme, "Connection," focuses on fostering meaningful connection across people, values, and cultures. During the ceremony, the Abbot passed on the Lamp of Wisdom to venerable, alumni, and new students, symbolizing the transmission of Dharma and the cultivation of meaningful connections. With participants joining from Vancouver, Toronto, the UK, and Asia, the LCSG program continues to grow, offering a platform for deepening practice and fostering connection. |

Year-end cleaning |
|
As the Lunar New Year approaches, it is time to bid farewell to the old and welcome the new. TLKYCS has organized the annual thorough cleaning event. We are grateful to the Venerable for leading the effort and to the dedicated volunteers for their enthusiastic participation. Together, they contribute to supporting and maintaining the sacred space. While sweeping away dust and impurities to purify and adorn the center, it is also an opportunity to cleanse the heart and mind. Through these efforts, the Society is renewed with a fresh and vibrant appearance. |

Introduction to Buddhism Lecuture 8 |
|
On January 11, the "Introduction to Buddhism" lecture series, jointly organized by TLKYCS and Hong Kong Tung Lin Kok Yuen, continued with its eighth session. Venerable Abbot Tsang Chit delivered a talk titled "Buddhist Etiquette (Part 2)," offering an in-depth discussion on how to cultivate purity of body, speech, and mind in Buddhist practice.
Abbot Venerable Tsang Chit began by emphasizing the cultivation of reverence, highlighting that "ritual" is an external expression of sincere inner respect. He further extended the discussion to specific guidelines and appropriate conduct regarding attire, speech, and behavior. |

Ch'an & Chat: Monthly Meet-ups @ UBC & SFU |
|
On 2 and 25 January, we organized the monthly Ch'an & Chat meet-ups at the UBC Life Building and SFU Burnaby campus, and the online session respectively. Together with the university community, we met for a mindfulness practice, tea & coffee meditation, sharing, and listening to music together. |

Tung Lin Kok Yuen, Canada Society is dedicated to introduce Buddhist spiritual care in healthcare institutions, long-term care facilities, and universities. By integrating Buddhist teachings and practices with professional techniques, we aim to support careseekers when they are going through difficult moments, connecting them with the compassion and wisdom of Buddhism in the community. |
