Abbot Tsang Chit New Year Teaching: “Harmonize body and mind, cultivate the path ahead.” |
|
Abbot Venerable Tsang Chit compared the restless mind to a “wild horse,” emphasizing that practice requires steady perseverance, not speed. Through precepts, concentration, and wisdom, one reins the mind, cultivates body and mind, and follows a clear path. He encouraged mindful, step-by-step living in the new year, maintaining inner calm and peace. |

Pay Tribute to the Buddha's Blessings |
|
The Abbot taught that offerings to the Three Jewels are made throughout the year, and Dharma assemblies rely on them. Sutra chanting fosters awakening, wisdom, and joy. Through generosity and upholding precepts, one cultivates blessings, kindness, and discipline. Taking refuge in the Three Jewels, avoiding evil, and doing good help strengthen character. Blessings must be guided by wisdom. With generosity, moral conduct, filial piety, and rejoicing in others’ goodness, wisdom arises—enabling one to remain steady amid life’s impermanence and uncertainty. |

Buddhist Chanting and Instrument Course |
|
Lotus Sutra: Sanskrit chants are profound and pleasing.
Venerable Wai Leung guided the Dharma Instrument Class on using ritual instruments, proper chanting, and phrasing techniques. In Buddhism, music is one of the ten offerings, honoring the Buddha.
Participants joined with pure recitation, praising the Buddha and enhancing the Dharma assemblies. |

Monthly Meditation Practice |
|
On February 21, the society held its “Monthly Meditation Practice” session with Venerable Wai Leung leading two hours of meditation.
He taught that “afflictions are Bodhi,” guiding participants through seated, tea, and walking meditation, as well as invoking the name of the Amitabha, to cultivate focus, awareness, and the joy of Ch'an.
Practitioners are encouraged to carry this mindfulness into daily life for peace and steadiness. |

Annual Graduation Ceremony and Volunteer Tea Gathering |
|
On February 7, the Society held its annual Graduation Ceremony, honoring over 100 students for a year of study and growth across programs. The Abbot also conducted the Cloud Haven sash and badge ceremony. The highlight was the lamp transmission, as the lotus lamp—symbol of wisdom and compassion—was passed to Venerables and students, inspiring shared vows. A volunteer gathering followed, uniting long-standing and new members in fellowship, sustaining the temple as both a place of learning and a spiritual home. |
