"Be Well" Lecture Series |
|
Tung Lin Kok Yuen, Canada Society's "Be Well" lecture series is pleased to welcome Venerable Sik Hin Hung on 15-16 June for a lecture titled "The structure and teaching of the Diamond Sutra: re-reading insight after 30 years." Venerable Hin Hung's journey with teaching the Diamond Sutra began 30 years ago, igniting a lifelong exploration of its wisdom through research, practice, and teaching. Drawing on his recent reflections and insights, Venerable Hin Hung will offer a clear and accessible exploration of the Sutra's core teachings, emphasizing the concept of dependent arising. Through this Sutra, participants will gain deeper understanding of non-attachment, appreciate the spirit of Bodhisattva’s compassionate acts, enter into the path of happiness. |

Dialogue on Buddhist Counselling |
|
Buddhist Counselling is an emerging field of practice and study. Over the last decade, Ven. Hin Hung has founded a Master of Buddhist Counselling at the University of Hong Kong published some ground breaking research and pioneer a few initiatives to establish Buddhist Counselling as a recognized profession in Hong Kong. The Society is honored to invite Ven. Hin Hung to share his journey and vision for the future. Panelists including Ven. Wai Leung, Ernest and Venus will also discuss their experience in serving communities at the Universities and healthcare institutions in Canada.

"Pure Lotus Lamp" workshop |
|
TLKYCS will host the "Pure Lotus Lamp" workshop in July. We respectfully invite Venerable Chi Bun to lead us in using velvet strips to create exquisite lotus lanterns. The lotus, which grows in the mud and blooms above the water, symbolizes the transition from afflictions to purity, embodying the concept of remaining untainted despite growing in a muddy environment. Through this course, participants can understand the pure and unblemished nature of life, finding serenity and bright happiness in tranquility. |

Sowing Seeds in Your Mind 2024 |
|
TLKYCS will organize “Sowing seeds in your mind” gardening courses and invites experienced farmer as instructors. Let the students put their body and mind on nature and learn the knowledge of sustainable development and ecology. In the process of planting, students can also extend the five mindfulness training of Buddhism to our moral relationship with ecology, nurture a sense of gratitude, and understand the wisdom of dependent arising by observing the process and results of planting. |

The Great Assembly to Benefit All Beings |
|
The Great Assembly to Benefit All Beings in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Society was held on June 2-9, where participants engaged in the practices of the Medicine Buddha Dharma for longevity and relieving sufferings, followed by the Yogacara Offering.
The Abbot explained that everyone wishes for good health, especially after the pandemic, and the Medicine Buddha practice is particularly resonant as it provides remedies to heal physical and mental afflictions. Venerable masters led the recitation of the "Medicine Master's Twelve Great Vows for Dispelling Calamities, Resolving Karmic Obstacles, and Liberating Beings," along with the Yogacara Offering to spread benefits to all sentient beings. |

Buddha's Birthday Assembly |
|
To celebrate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha, TLKYCS hosted the "Buddha's Birthday Assembly" on 12 May. Through Bathing the Buddha ceremony, participants pay respects to the Buddha, and carry on the wisdom of the Dharma, praying for the illumination of compassion in the world. |

Buddha's Birthday Open Days |
|
To celebrate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha, TLKYCS hosted the "Buddha's Birthday Open Days" on 11 and 12 May. In addition to the traditional bathing Buddha ceremony, the event also featured "tea meditation X steel tongue drum" session, guided tours, various booth activities, and snacks. |

The Society joined the BC Buddhist Culture Day |
|
The Society participated in the second BC Buddhist Culture Day, introducing the public to its religious significance, history, and heritage. On that day, nearly a hundred visitors to the society's booth received gifts and books aimed at enhancing awareness of Buddhism in Western society, connecting the Vancouver community, and sharing Buddhist wisdom and compassion, inviting more people to learn about the Society. |

Sixteen Gates of Contemplations Sutra |
|
A series of the "Sixteen Gates of Contemplations Sutra" guided study course is graciously led by Venerable Wai Leung. The final session held on 15 May, through reading the sutra and practicing contemplation, participants are presented with a magnificent "Pure Land" vision. Venerable Wai Leung guides attendees in recitation and visualization, integrating the compassion and wisdom of Buddhism into daily life. |

LCSG23 Session |
|
In the 7th session of the International Leadership and Communication Skills Course (LCSG), alumni were invited to share their experiences and insights from their Buddhist studies. These alumni, coming from various industries and backgrounds, demonstrated to current students how the Buddha's teaching has helped them excel in both their careers and personal lives.

Sowing Seeds in Your Mind |
|
In the "Sowing Seeds in Your Mind" classes held on May 4 and 18, the instructor explained the agricultural system of "Twenty-Four Solar Terms" and acquainted participants with the energy cycle among plants, soil, and living organisms. They also learnt about sustainability and ecology. |
