In the "Sigālovāda Sutta", "skilfulness" is stable and tranquil. It is the practice of purification benefiting oneself and others in this life and next. There are three aspects of a "skilful" life: being "detached" from wrongful realms guides us away from unskilful path, "practising" skilful means leads us to purification, and "preserving" a pure mind serves as the basis of compassion.
