Sowing Seeds in Your Mind—Winter Extension Program

The Society continues the "Sowing seeds in your mind" winter extension program, offers a variety of activities. During the six classes we will focused on agricultural themes, share knowledge about farming, food, tea, and mindfulness, deepening our understanding of the connection between people, the mind, and the natural world.

Next session on Cultivation Knowledge and Video Sharing will be held on Dec 9, 2-4 PM.

The first sharing of the International Leadership and Communication Skills Course (LCSG) was offered by Dr. Ernest Ng with the topic "Seeing the Mountain and the Abyss". Participants explored a journey to integrate everyday challenges with Buddhist teachings and practices.

TLKYCS collaborated with Canadian Association of Spiritual Care ("CASC") to offer an Introducing Mindfulness course to spiritual care and other health care professionals across the country online. Through the sessions, participants cultivated deeper awareness and appreciation in daily lives, promoting well-being for the carers and the community.

On 24 November, TLKYCS attended a multi-faith event organized by the Multifaith Chaplains Association at UBC. We explore with students and other religious communities on the topic of Spirituality and Mental Health, strengthening understanding and exchange in the diverse community.

On 4 November, we celebrated with the graduates their completion of the "Sowing Seeds in your Mind" gardening course. Participants cultivated contentment and gratefulness, as well as the moral way of living in the process.

In preparation for the winter season, the instructor of the "Sowing seeds in your mind" gardening course led participants in collecting fallen leaves and caring for planting boxes to create protective coverings for the plants. Participants learned how to assist plants in surviving the winter.

At the winter extension events: "Sowing Seeds in your Mind" x Pickling, instructors highlighted the application of enzymes and microorganisms in the pickling process, preserving food naturally. In line with Buddhist teachings about the interconnectedness of humans and nature, fermentation serves to minimize food waste, enhance flavors, and reveal the wondrous potential of the microscopic world.

Ch'an & Chat: Monthly Meet-ups @ UBC & SFU
Ch'an & Chat: Monthly Meet-ups @ UBC & SFU

On 9, 18 & 30 November, we organized the monthly Ch'an & Chat meet-ups at the UBC Life Building, SFU Vancouver, and SFU Burnaby campus, respectively. Together with the university community, we met for a mindfulness practice, tea & coffee meditation, sharing, and listening to harp music together.
