Introductory Lecture on
"Understanding the Three Refuges and Five Precepts."

The Society will organize an introductory lecture on "Understanding the Three Refuges and Five Precepts" in Buddhism. We respectfully invite Venerable Wai Leung to introduce the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha (the Triple Gem) . While "Taking Refuge" marks the beginning of Buddhist learning, the "Five Precepts" are essential guidelines for Buddhist practitioners' daily life. By taking the Three Refuges and Five Precepts, we embark upon the path of peace and liberation from suffering.

Buddha's Birthday Assembly & Open Days 2024
Buddha's Birthday Assembly & Open Days 2024

To celebrate the Buddha's birthday in May, the Society is organizing a pre-cerebration assembly and open days on May 11-12. Through the celebration, we pay respect to the Buddha by "bathing" the Buddha while purifying our mind, with an aspiration to follow the teachings of the Buddha and may his compassion shine through the world. In addition, the Society will also organize open days with guided tours, booth activities, and experiential practice. We hope to celebrate this Buddha's birthday with the public with these religious and cultural activities.

Sowing Seeds in Your Mind 2024
Sowing Seeds in Your Mind 2024

TLKYCS will organize “Sowing seeds in your mind” gardening courses and invites experienced farmer as instructors. Let the students put their body and mind on nature and learn the knowledge of sustainable development and ecology. In the process of planting, students can also extend the five mindfulness training of Buddhism to our moral relationship with ecology, nurture a sense of gratitude, and understand the wisdom of dependent arising by observing the process and results of planting.

During the Ching Ming Festival, the Society will hold the "Ching Ming Emperor Liang Treasure of Repentance Assembly". We gather to express filial piety and gratitude to our ancestors, and dedicated all merits and offerings to our family for their well-being in this life and next.

"Sixteen Gates of Contemplations Sutra" Guided Study Course
"Sixteen Gates of Contemplations Sutra" Guided Study Course

TLKYCS is organizing a Guided Study Course on the "Sixteen Gates of Contemplations Sutra", and we are honored to invite Venerable Wai Leung Sik as the instructor. The Sixteen Gates of Contemplations is a practice method for Pure Land Buddhism practitioners. Through the guidance of the classical texts and the combination of recitation of the Infinite Life Sutra and Five Assemblies Reciting the Buddha's Name, participants will gain an understanding of the profound meaning and content of the scriptures. This will help integrate Buddhist compassion and wisdom into daily life.

Tongue Drum Course Completion
Tongue Drum Course Completion

The "Purifying Connections" Tongue Drum Course concluded successfully on 23 March. Venerable Wai Leung utilized the melodious and pure tones of the spirit drums to help participants let go of worries, and enter inner tranquility and serenity, with participants learning to play a series of songs including "Song of the Triple Gem" and "Fivefold Recitation of the Buddha's Name".

The Society hosted the "Sixteen Gates of Contemplations Sutra" Guided Study Course instructed by Ven. Wai Leung. Through guided study of the classical texts, combining with recitation of the Infinite Life Sutra and Five Assembles Reciting the Buddha's Name, participants gain an understanding of the profound meaning and content of the scriptures. This supports the integration the compassion and wisdom of Buddhism into daily life.

The fifth session of the Leadership and Communication Skills Global (LCSG) course cordially invites Venerable Wai Leung to share on the topic of "Harmony of Heart and Mind: The Way of Life in Buddhism", explaining the Noble Eightfold Path, enabling participants to cultivate mindfulness, understand impermanence, and appreciate the value of life.

On 9 & 23 March, the "Video sharing sessions" were featured in the winter extension program of "Sowing Seeds in Your Mind" at TLKYCS. The participants explore the interaction between humans and nature, and share insights on cultivation.

SFU Faith Talk
SFU Faith Talk

On 20 March, TLKYCS participated in the annual Faith Talk event hosted by SFU. This year's theme was "What is Prayer", featuring representatives from various religious backgrounds sharing the wisdom on prayers. The event facilitated understanding and harmony among different religious groups, while also providing a platform for students to learn about the wisdom of various religious beliefs.

Ch'an & Chat: Monthly Meet-ups @ UBC & SFU
Ch'an & Chat: Monthly Meet-ups @ UBC & SFU

On 14, 23 & 28 March, we organized the monthly Ch'an & Chat meet-ups at the UBC Life Building, SFU Vancouver, and SFU Burnaby campus, respectively. Venerable Wai Leung led participants in the practice of "Clam, Relaxation & Compassion." And he played the tongue drum, to help students let go of worries, focus on the present moment, and enter the inner tranquility.
