Stepping into the Main Hall, three majestic Buddha statues draw our attention. At the center, Sakyamuni Buddha embodies awakening and wisdom. To the right, Medicine Buddha signifies compassion, healing, and protection from calamity. To the left, Amitabha Buddha represents guidance and infinite light and life. Together, they reflect Buddhism’s worldviews and cosmology.

These statues trace their origins to Tung Lin Kok Yuen in Hong Kong, commissioned in the 1930s by Lady Clara. Crafted by Jiangnan artisans from camphor wood and adorned with Ningbo’s vermilion-gold lacquer technique, they blend carving, gilding, and lacquering into a radiant, layered artistry. This craft, now a Chinese national intangible cultural heritage, shines with timeless beauty.

The statues enshrined here were carved by master artisan Zhou Zhongdong following the original designs. Transported from Hong Kong to Vancouver, they symbolize the Dharma’s journey from East to West and the legacy of Tung Lin Kok Yuen, a testament to enduring faith.

The statues reside within an intricately carved vermilion-gold lacquer shrine. Its layered structure mirroring the deepening path of practice. Its delicate motifs, both devotional and artistic, reveal the cultural richness of Buddhist craftsmanship.

We stand here at the heart of the temple’s faith and culture, showcasing exquisite artistry while bearing witness to a timeless legacy.
